Microsoft is being questioned by the US authorities over whether or not or not a spread initiative portions to racial discrimination.

The Department of Labor has singled out Microsoft’s pledge to double the number of “black and African American” senior workers by 2025.

Officials have warned the company the objective appears “to imply that the employment action may be taken on the basis of race”.

Microsoft denies the accusation. “We are clear that the law prohibits us from discriminating on the basis of race,” the company’s lawyer Dev Stahlkopf blogged.

“We even have affirmative obligations as a corporation that serves the federal authorities to proceed to increase the vary of our workforce, and we take these obligations very critically.

The Department of Labor has instructed Microsoft it has until 29 October to submit associated proof.
